Mainland Four Year Colleges
Of course, there are many, many colleges on the mainland...and they all have websites and can be found easily by searching. So, rather than try to list them all (as if I could), I'm going to focus on those colleges that traditionally send representatives to Hilo High. Many of these schools are "private" colleges. Most have long, distiguished histories of offerring Hawai'i students excellent educational opportunities. A couple of points I'd like to make on behalf of those private colleges.
One, though they are "private" colleges which generally have higher tuitions than "state" colleges, these schools offer extensive scholarship and financial aid packages to deserving students so the actual out of pocket expenses for students and parents is comparable if not less than what they would pay at a public institution.
And Two, don't confuse small school with small education. These colleges have very strong academic programs that because of their small size can offer as good if not better learning experiences for their students than those "big name" schools.
Because of the above two points, getting into these colleges is very competetive. It's the same old story...Students need have taken challenging courses in high school, have earned high grade point averages in those courses and achieved solid SAT or ACT test scores.
And then there are the Western Undergraduate Exchange or WUE schools that come to visit! These are exceptional values for our students...so much so that I made a page just for them...check the menu at left for WUE Colleges.
Let's start with the Pacific NorthWest Connection!

These colleges and universities have a long tradition of recruiting some of the best students Hawai'i produces.
