Military service is one of the major possible post high school career choices.  Today's military offers outstanding educational opportunities along with the pride of serving the nation.  And times of economic downturn make a stint in the armed services even more attractive.

Don't make the mistake that getting into the military is easy, however.  Students interested in a career in the military will need to score high enough to meet the cut score for the branch they want on the ASVAB, the military's entrance and specialty area guidance tool.  Remember, the ASVAB QT score listed in the notes below is a minimum.  Every branch is really looking for recruits who score above that  minimum.  Also, no branches are currently accepting anything less than a high school diploma.  The GED is not accepted.

The ASVAB QT score necessary for recruitment into the Coast Guard is 45.  And at this time, the Hawai'i USCG is particularly looking for female recruits.  They are trying to achieve some balance in the recruitment of males vs. females.  So you go, girls!

Asvab score needed for acceptance:  This one is high!  To have a realistic chance you need to be above 50 and preferably up in the 70's.  The Hawai'i Air National Guard is highly desirable and therefore highly competetive!
