TB Tests
These are required when students initially enter college in Hawai'i and elsewhere. They're good for only one year so most of our students need to have theirs re-done before entering college. TB tests are also needed in some of our health classes and others in which public health is a concern.
With regards to HCC/UHH/UHM, TB clearance is required to complete your initial registration. If you don't show proof of clearance, a "hold" will be placed on your account and you will not be able to pay (which means after a certain date, the courses which you wanted will be made available to others). Don't let that happen. I suggest that during your senior year, you either see your physician or use one of the other options available in the community.
Fortunately, TB tests are available free at the State Building (75 Aupuni Street). These tests are performed by the Department of Health/Public Health Nursing on the lanai area facing the County Building. You will need a picture ID. Testing time is Tuesdays between 1pm to 2pm. First come, first served. You will need to return the following Thursday between 1pm to 2pm for your reading and to get your clearance card. If you have any questions, call the Public Health Nurses at 974-6025.
Another option is through UHH Student Health Services located on UHH Campus Center, Room 212. They offer the TB test on Mondays from 8am to 12pm, except for holidays. They read the test on Wednesdays same times. There is a fee of $3. For more information, please call the Student Health Services office at 974-7636.
Get those TB clearances early and it will be one less thing that you will need to worry about. And there will be many other details which you will need to attend to in your quest for college.
